Hi there,
I have been googling protest for the last hour to see if we can organise something after some of my friends on facebook suggested it and I totally think it's important! I don't know of any protest organisers but I have emailed GetUP! Australia to see if they would be involved.
Also, in terms of the protest it is just recommended that you inform the police of the time, location and how many people you expect.
I think there would be the biggest number on the weekend but is that too late? I think you might need that amount of time to rally enough people together and get media attention.
Are you in Sydney? I know that there are lot's of people in Sydney that are keen.
are there any other iranian community groups organisations we can contact and ask if they want to manage this? or get involved?

Demonstrations in Australia has been taking place since demonstrations has begun in Iran, they demonstrated election results in Perth, Sydney and Canberra in front of Iranian embassy
People usually get organised using facebook and Persian radios (Radio Parsian in Sydney for example)
I'll update this page with any news in regards to any organised demonstrations in Australia, if you receive any news please post it here
By the way, number of news organisations have been contacting OzPersia to speak with Iranians in Australia in regards to current issues in Iran, if you are willing to speak please let me know so I can organise it
Regards,
Ehsan

ok having been involved in student politics in victoria for some years i would have to say that iranian political organisation in australia is APPALING at best
there needs to be dedicated groups of people organising and spreading this stuff and they need to have a website and be easily contactable and found. Iranians are so isolated here (unless ofcourse there is some fucking dance party somewhere then everybody knows about it) im sory but this is not GOOD ENOUGH, considering that in Iran despite all the communication restrictions people are managing to organise rallies reminicent of 79 and here where we have all the freedom in the world people are snoozing or at best not communicating effectively (it is good news to know that there were rallies outside the embassy but these need to be advertised better)
having said all that i have been informed by an australian friend (who is a credible source) that there is a rally tomorrow morning at 11 am at FED square in Melbourne (you melbournians should all know where FED SQUARE IS RIGHT?) people need to come down to this even if it is just to show moral support, then it needs to be filmed and posted on youtube so that iranians in iran can see the diaspora are also active. i am not sure who is organising this but if somebody knows please let me know.
i blame the Iranian Society of Victoria for the situation in melbourne at least, so apolitical they refuse to organise anything political...
perhaps if we get organised we can organise some busses from all capital cities to take a large group of us to the embassy and blockade it or do a sit in or something...any other ideas?

Hi All,
There is demonstration in Sydney scheduled on Sunday at 1pm at Hyde Park.
http://canal1.com.au/new_rise/index.html
Spread the word like wildfire if you can.
Technically I'm not persian (I'm Armenian but I lived there for couple years so I have I special place in my heart for Iran) and so I don't know the Iranian community in Australia very well so I don't who to tell or how but I would just suggest getting everyone involved and sending it out to whoever you can your friends, colleagues - which is what I am going to do.
At the end of the day as Australians we should care enough to stand up for the people in Iran to ensure that have the rights for a fair election and freedom of speech.

Hi Ehsan,
I posted the details of the protest just before and I explained wasn't Iranian there but I could organise a spokesperson for you, my friend is and she has being pretty active in getting stuff happening and that would be great way to bring attention to the demonstration on Sunday.
Should I get her to contact you directly? Is there an email address I can give her?

ok back from melbourne "rally"
in reality only a stand in of about 100 people (not too bad i guess) which was mostly just standing around, waving flags, and singing the unofficial national anthem of Ey Iran...to be honest a bit disapointing as far as a "political" action goes, there wasnt even a speaker...(well i was 10 minutes late so unless there was one in the first 10 minutes only then there wasnt one)
i still dont know who organised it, probably the same people who hosted that criminal Khatami earlier in the year, anyway if anyone that has any organisational capacities or has contacts or whatever i suggest that a protest either outside the iranian embassy be organised or at least outside the russian consulate as they pounced on the opportunity to accept Ahmadinejad as the head of state

Hopefully this link will work otherwise let me know

Also, from what I understand there are 2 protests scheduled one on Saturday at Martin Place at 2pm.
Apparently the one on Saturday has secured Media to cover it so it would be good if everyone goes to that one if not both. It makes sense cos channel 7 is right there.

ok i feel far too idle....what can we do here in australia?
its true that we are far from the action and that we are a relatively small (and i might add unorganised) diaspora community but it has to start somewhere, and i actually dont have many iranian friends and dont know that many...and apart from this forum which i found on google (which doesnt seem to host too much activity..no offense to the admins) i dont know how to communicate with other IRanians.
im hoping that people on this forum will know more people than i do and that we could network and share adn exchange ideas about activities we might be able to organise, or if ther eis anyone with direct contact with people inside iran who might be able to organise phone call interviews or something to get some raw coverage of what is going on (media ban is making it extremely difficult to get official coverage)
also perhaps even a public meeting and debate about the prospects for real reform???? i know i have my opinions on this and i think they should be shared with other...i for one did not and would never vote for mousavi...but i do believe that this is beyond that now and mousavi is of marginal significance...what do others think?
i would like to hear opinions on these suggestions as well:
- organising bus to simultaneousl take protestors to iranain embassy in canera from all other states
- protests outside your local russian consulate, the first major power to come out and support Ahmadinejad's reelection
cmon if iranians inside iran with all their restrictions can organise gatherings of such magnitute we should be able to get a few hundred people together if the will is there...

is there another forum like this one with more activity? discussion?? i feel like im talking to myself...
i would also like to suggest that a petition be organised to and sent to all the major islamic associations in australia demanding that they condemn the violence dished out in the name of 'allah' against iranians. they are dreadfully silent on this issue...
who wants to help me organise one and help me collect signatures?

do you no why ther so silentt bout this issue becos half the islamic associations agree with the shit tht goes on iran!! it breaks my heart to think tht people can actually stand for the things they do.. and then go oh but its in the name of god.. its sad but theres people like tht out there
im with the petition thing its a good idea

disagree
the victorian islamic council, has had a history of condemning terrorism, and is lways trying to push a moderate image, this is an opportunity for them to show how moderate they really are (and i dont doubt that they are moderate) i think theyre just a bit switched off politically and they might also argue that they are concerned with the affairs of muslim in victoria but i would argue that a lot of iranians in victoria are muslims and that this is something that effects them...
but thats only victoria, is there any other groups anywhere else? specifically Shia organisations would be even better i guess.
